G5 massage is one of the most searched body treatments in Istanbul, and the questions people ask are remarkably similar: what does G5 massage actually do, will it help me lose weight, how many sessions does it take, and is the before-and-after difference real? In this guide we answer the questions we hear most often at our Şişli salon, in one place and without the hype.
What is G5 massage?
G5 takes its name from the vibrating massage device used in the treatment. Using a range of heads, the device applies rhythmic vibration and gentle pressure to the tissue. It works at a faster, steadier pace than manual massage, which is why it is popular for larger areas such as the hips, thighs, abdomen and arms.
The aim is to stimulate circulation in the area, loosen the tissue and help the skin look smoother. G5 is not a surgical procedure: there are no needles or incisions, and you can go straight back to your day afterwards. For details of the treatment at our salon, see our G5 massage service page.
What does G5 massage do?
- Cellulite appearance: The vibration mobilises compacted tissue under the skin; with regular sessions it can help soften the "orange peel" look.
- Circulation and puffiness: It can ease the heavy-leg feeling that comes from long hours sitting or standing.
- Muscle tension: It is relaxing after sport or a long day at a desk. We cover this separately in G5 massage for muscle tension.
- Skin texture: Better circulation can help the skin look firmer and more even.
Does G5 massage help you lose weight?
The honest answer: G5 massage on its own will not make you lose weight. It does not destroy fat cells or burn calories. What it does is support circulation and tissue so that the treated area looks better. When people notice a change in their measurements after a session, it usually comes from reduced puffiness and fluid retention.
That is why the best results come from programmes that combine G5 with a balanced diet, enough water and regular movement.
How is the treatment done?
- Consultation: We talk through the target area, your health history and your expectations. If any of the conditions listed below apply, we do not start the treatment.
- Choosing the head: Different heads are used depending on the area and tissue; softer heads are used on sensitive areas.
- The session: The device is moved over the area following the direction of circulation. A session usually takes 20–40 minutes depending on the area.
- Afterwards: Drink plenty of water and avoid very salty food on the same day. Mild redness is normal and fades quickly.
For area-specific programmes, see G5 leg, G5 abdomen and G5 arm.
How many sessions do you need?
A programme of 8–12 sessions, once or twice a week, is usually recommended. The exact number depends on your tissue, the target area and your lifestyle. Once the programme is complete, one or two maintenance sessions a month can help you keep the result.
G5 massage before and after: what to expect
Treat before-and-after photos online with some caution: lighting, angle and posture can change a picture dramatically. Realistic expectations look like this:
- First sessions: A lighter, more relaxed feeling in the legs is the most common feedback we hear.
- Around sessions 4–6: You may start to notice the skin surface looking smoother.
- End of the programme: A softer cellulite appearance and a firmer feel in the area; results vary from person to person.
The fairest way to track progress is to take photos in the same light and from the same angle, and tape measurements, before your first session and at the end of the programme.
Can G5 be combined with lymphatic drainage?
Yes, the two complement each other. G5 mobilises the tissue with deeper, more intense vibration, while lymphatic drainage, done at our salon with a device and an air-pressure garment (suit), uses rhythmic pressure waves to help the body move excess fluid. If puffiness is your main concern, adding lymphatic drainage massage between or after G5 sessions is a popular combination.
G5 or Magic Shape?
G5 works with mechanical vibration; Magic Shape combines heat and vacuum technologies. Which one suits you depends on your goal and your tissue. We compare them in detail in Magic Shape vs G5 massage and non-surgical body contouring compared. You can also visit our Magic Shape page.
Who should not have G5 massage?
G5 is not applied, or you should check with your doctor first, if any of the following apply:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- A history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), prominent varicose veins or a clotting disorder
- A pacemaker, or metal implants in the treatment area
- Active infection, open wounds or a skin condition in the area
- Ongoing cancer treatment
- Recent surgery (without your doctor's approval)
We always ask about these at the consultation; if you are unsure about anything, just let us know before your appointment.
The bottom line
G5 massage is a comfortable, no-downtime treatment for the appearance of cellulite, puffiness and muscle tension. It is not a miracle slimming method, but combined with regular sessions, a balanced diet and movement it can make a real difference. Book an appointment at our Şişli salon and we will plan the right programme with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most frequently asked questions about this content
Does G5 massage help you lose weight?
Not on its own. G5 supports circulation and tissue to improve how an area looks; changes in measurements usually come from reduced puffiness. The best results come alongside a balanced diet and regular movement.
How many G5 sessions do I need?
A programme of 8–12 sessions, once or twice a week, is usually recommended. The exact number is set at your consultation based on your tissue, the area and your lifestyle.
Does G5 massage hurt?
Most people describe G5 as intense but relaxing. Softer heads are used on sensitive areas and the pressure is adjusted to suit you.
Can G5 massage cause bruising?
Mild redness is normal and fades quickly. If you bruise easily, mention it at your consultation and the pressure will be adjusted.
Can G5 and lymphatic drainage be done on the same day?
Yes. G5 mobilises the tissue and lymphatic drainage helps move excess fluid, so the two are often planned together when puffiness is the main concern.
Who should not have G5 massage?
People who are pregnant, have a history of DVT or prominent varicose veins, have a pacemaker, an active infection or open wound, or are undergoing cancer treatment should not have G5, or should check with their doctor first.
